At The Hobby Bench Co., craftsmanship begins with passion.

The Hobby Bench Co was born from two lifelong interests: the outdoors and working with my hands. What started with fly fishing and fly tying quickly grew into a deeper appreciation for creating dedicated spaces where hobbies can truly come to life.

​

Fly fishing has always been more than just a pastime — it’s early mornings on quiet rivers, the rhythm of casting, patience, precision, and the artistry of tying the perfect fly.

 

Fly tying, in particular, fascinated me for its detail, creativity, and craftsmanship. But like many hobbyists, I found myself working wherever space allowed — often taking over the dining room table with tools, feathers, thread, and materials.

That challenge led to the creation of my first dedicated fly tying station: a workspace designed to be functional, organized, and worthy of the craft itself.

​

What began as a practical solution soon became something much bigger.

​

I realized there was a real need in South Africa for premium, purpose-built hardwood furniture designed specifically for serious hobbyists, craftsmen, and outdoor enthusiasts. Too often, people are forced to adapt generic desks or makeshift workspaces to suit highly specialized passions.
