Handcrafted Fly Tying Benches, Furniture and Accessories.

Our Story

"Quality is not an act, it is a habit." - Aristotle

The Hobby Bench Co was born from two lifelong passions: the outdoors and working with my hands.

Fly fishing has always been more than just a hobby for me. It’s early mornings on quiet rivers, the rhythm of casting, the patience of observation, and the craft of tying the perfect fly.

Fly tying, in particular, fascinated me — the detail, the precision, the creativity. But there was one small problem.

The dining room table.

After one too many evenings of feathers, thread, hooks and tools scattered across the house — and after having to explain the “creative chaos” left behind — I decided it was time to build something better. I designed and built my own dedicated fly tying station. A space that was functional, organized, and worthy of the craft itself.

What started as a practical solution quickly became something more.

I realized there was a real need in South Africa for high-end, purpose-built hardwood fly tying furniture — and more broadly, quality hobby furniture designed for people who take their craft seriously. Too often, passionate hobbyists are left adapting generic desks or makeshift workspaces. I believe your workspace should elevate your craft, not limit it.

That belief is the foundation of The Hobby Bench Co.

Every piece I build is made to order. Crafted from quality hardwoods, designed with intention, and built to last. Whether it’s for fly tying, model building, woodworking, or any other hands-on pursuit, my goal is simple:

To create furniture that inspires you to sit down, slow down, and create.

Because great craftsmanship deserves a space that reflects it.
